BHEA
Activities
There
is always a full calendar of activities in BHEA - lots
for all ages and interests. The list below is a sampling of some of the
things we do or have done. When you look over this list you can
see
why
most homeschoolers laugh when asked, "What about socialization?"!!!!
Each of these
activities is organized by members or groups of members. If
you have an idea for an activity or wish to volunteer to help with
an activity with no contact information beside it, please email activities@bhea.net.

Field
Trips --
Field trips are an intergral part of BHEA educational experiences. All of
our members are encouraged to arrange field trips. It is really very
easy. Click here for thorough instructions
and ideas or click here for a Planning
Guide. Now: You can now add your trip directly to the calendar
on the BHEA Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BHEA/cal!
(You will first need to subscribe to the yahoogroups list by going to BHEA-subscribe@yahoogroups.com).

B.H.E.A.lthy --
A special physical education program offered exclusively for homeschoolers
by Maryville College. Four sessions per year are offered. Each session
is generally 5 weeks long. Would you like to volunteer to organize
this?
BHEA
Yearbook -- BHEA
publishes an yearbook. This yearbook features individual
school pictures which are taken once a year at a location announced
in the BHEA newsletter. Also included are candid photos submitted
by BHEA members of their children at various field trips and
events. Our BHEA Yearbook is only as good as the pictures that
are submitted.
Please take advantage of this opportunity and remember to take
pictures throughout the year of your children participating in
BHEA. Please contact Erica Fleming: mama_bear357@yahoo.com ?
BHEA Campout --
Contact Sarah Small at shc.small@gmail.com.
BHEA
Newspaper Articles -- Our students have the opportunity
to write an article about activities for homeschoolers to be published,
once a month, in the "School Times" section of our local
newspaper (www.thedailytimes.com).
The students who have written our articles in the past few years
have done very well. Specific guidelines will be given to those
who are interested.
Box-Tops
for Education --
Most all of you have seen them on your box tops. They come on General
Mills and Betty Crocker products. All you need to do is simply tear
the box-top off and give it to the box top coordinator. Each box
top
is worth .10 cents. May not sound like much but 1 box top from
each of our 100 or so families each week adds up fast. I send these
in and they send us a check!!! How easy is that. Get everyone you
know to save these for you and we can earn lots of money for very
little effort. Coordinator: Debbie Hodge
at mommyofjmtera@aol.com.
BHEA
Home-based Business Directory -
Are you a member of BHEA? Do you have your on business? We would
like

families as well as Monday Fun classes.
Christmas

The
Congressional Award - The Congressional Award Program
is about challenge. The award offers young people (14 - 24 years
old) the opportunity to set a personal goal and achieve it. Four
areas are included in the challenge: volunteer public service,
personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration.
Along the way, you will learn about yourself and about qualities
like responsibility, citizenship and the ability to plan and organize.
This looks like a great program. It seems to suit itself to individual
families doing
the program, so we don’t have a leader. It may be beneficial to work
with other families in some areas of the challenge. When you get to
an area where it would be beneficial just put out a notice and try
to get a group together to do the activity. We could even start a BHEA
Congressional Award message board for those involved. Just let us know
of your needs in this area. For more information contact: The Congressional
Award Foundation, P.O. Box 77440, Washington, DC 20013. The phone number
is 202-226-0130. Or visit the website at www.congressionalaward.org. Are
you interested in coordinating this?
Festival
of Nations - An event wherein each participating
family hosts a table of information about another nation. Visitors
are given a "passport" to have stamped on their travels.
There are exotic foods to eat, costumes to wear, and authentic
trinkets to examine. This is both educational and fun for the
hosts and "tourists" alike! Contact: LaDonna Covert
at Homescool87@gmail.com.
Field
Day - An annual fun-filled event in late spring
for children to test their athletic ability, stretch their spirit
of competition, and good ole fashioned fun for the whole family!
A fitting end to a successful school year. Contact: Laurie Leslie at laurie_leslie@pobox.com.

Youth
Leadership Blount - serves high school sophomores who
show leadership abilities but who may not have the opportunity to reach
that potential. The program challenges and sustains youth in developing:
- The ability to provide effective and ethical leadership for Blount County,
- An increased awareness of and appreciation for Blount County and its
people,
- The ability and desire to serve the needs of the community both now
and in the future,
-
A strong bond with a diverse network of peers from throughout Blount
County.
Nominations for the program are
accepted in January. Teachers, guidance counselors, neighbors,
clergy, alumni or
other non-family members can nominate students for the program.
Candidates for selection must be currently enrolled as a high school
freshman and
have at least a 2.0 grade point average. Individuals should
also have a sincere interest in serving the community and demonstrate
the potential
for leadership. Learn more about the program by clicking
here. Please
contact Lori Wade at topside4@aol.com if
you have an interested 9th grade teen.
Volunteers
and fresh ideas are always needed!
