We’ll play our way through the story, using games, art projects, and acting to learn about Shakespeare’s words and characters. There is no one right version of Shakespeare’s play, so students will develop ideas throughout the semester about what their perfect productions would be like, down to the costumes, setting, and casting. We will do a craft or sample some food from the states we cover each week. In order to complete all 50 states, we will need to add a couple of classes to each semester. These dates will be given to you at kick-off. On the first day of class, your child will receive a spiral bound notebook in a manila envelope. This notebook is to be mailed to a relative or friend that lives in a different state. After that person writes some things about the state he/she lives in, that person will mail the notebook to someone else in another state. There will be a letter on the front of the notebook that will explain the process. The notebooks will be mailed back to us in March or April, and each child will see what states his/her notebook traveled through. You and your child will enjoy reading and learning more about the states the notebook visited. Each student will need to supply a three-ring notebook for the state information he/she will receive each week. Before the spring semester begins, a 3 or 4 inch three-ring binder will be needed in order to hold all the information for all 50 states. Themes are never repeated (except an occasional special one) so your child will never "repeat" a class, no matter which Spanish Fun!! class he or she signs up for. Spanish Fun!! classes work on a multi-tier system. As the child progresses, they will be recognized for reaching a new tier or level within the class. Within the same class we may have several levels of students working together. Once a student has been with Spanish Fun!! for a while & attained certain levels he or she may be chosen to be in an advanced class.

13:00Anatomy & Physiology [Open]6th-8thTina Riley$45 All creation is awe-inspiring, but the work of the human body, created in the very image of God, is especially jaw-dropping! This study of anatomy and physiology showcases the intricacy and design of the human body, from DNA and cell creation to the skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous/endocrine, immune, and intergumentary systems. Integrated with heath and nutrition information, as well as plenty of scripture and biblical application, this complete guide to the human body is written in an enjoyable, conversational tone that will keep kids engaged. Experiments, notebooking assignments, narration, and a "personal person project" provide interaction with concepts outside of reading, and help to solidify understanding. We will attempt to integrate some disease process as we study each body system. **$45 plus textbook(~$28) and notebooking journal (~$17)/ 2 semester commitment (will meet for 12 weeks each semester)

13:00Hands-On Shakespeare [Open]adultsJennifer Horn$15 This new class will focus on A Midsummer Night’s Dream and can actually be whatever the class wants it to be. I would be happy to do a version of the same course that I’m teaching younger students (lots of silliness, dress up, and games) or focus on how to teach Shakespeare to others (looking at things like language and rhythm and talking about what film and audio recordings could be useful) or (most probably) a mixture of both. I’m open to the needs and requests of the class and just interested in spreading a love for Shakespeare, so the bottom line is that class members should learn a lot and also manage to have some fun.
14:00Algebra II [Open]9th-12thJennifer Ammons$85 The class will use "The Life of Fred" as a base at-home text and supplement at the weekly classes with hands-on and technology applications of the topics covered during the week's assignments. I am also planning on including two open study-hall-like opportunities per week on Wednesday and Friday afternoons (two hours each) at the Library to help with any questions that arise during the week. A weekly course overview of either course is available by emailing the instructor.
14:00Yearbook [Full]7th-12thErica Fleming$20 During the first semester the teens will be coached on how to capture good photos and receive instruction in photo editing. Some journalism will be included, by interviewing people and gathering information for the pages in the yearbook they will be assigned. They will also be helping on the class picture days. They will be involved in some way with the selling of yearbooks, advertisements (if we choose to include theses), and fundraisers (if we have to have them). The spring semester, I will teach them how to use the yearbook program and we will begin constructing the layout during this time. The second semester will still include doing most of the activities they will learn during the fall semester. NOTE: Course fee is $30 if enrolling multiple students.

Alternative labs from those in the book may be substituted to give a better understanding of the material. Prerequisite: Algebra I. Supplies: Apologia Chemistry I, 2nd edition, 2-inexpensive flash drives.
14:00Boys Book Club [Open]2nd-7thDiane Benson & Leslie Morstatt$8 The Boys Adventure Book Club is for boys who enjoy reading or being read to, discussing the book, and doing "boy" activities (i.e.,acting out parts or playing games) that relate to the book. We will begin the club with the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. The first book is entitled Redwall. When we meet, the book should be completely read. We will discuss the next book in the series each time we meet. Boys should provide their own books. The books may be read by the child or read to him. These books would make good family read-alouds. The October book is entitled Mossflower and the November book is Mattimeo. These books are easily found at the library, used book stores, and Amazon. Redwall is an action adventure story. A group of peaceful mice, squirrels, and moles are pitted against animal villains (weasels, foxes, and stoats). The villains want to take over the Abbey in which the peaceful animals live. It is a thrilling good versus evil saga. You can read reviews of the books on Amazon and http://www.kidsreads.com/series/series-redwall.asp. We will meet once per month (Sept 27, Oct 25, Nov 22).
