Kimberly Faubion To All Instructors

I have homeschooled since 1999 and graduated my last child  in 2019.

I have a BFA from UTK.  I started out in the Engineering Degree program; but I loved the Graphics part so much; I changed majors at the beginning of my sophomore year to Graphic Design & Illustration and double majored in Drawing to elevate my illustration skills.  I minored in Art History and Watercolor.

I was a Graphic Designer for 15 years in the Knoxville area for various printers and agencies.

I love teaching and encouraging student's talent and skills in art.  I enjoy seeing them progress and gain confidence in themselves as they grow and develop. I have taught art from K-12. The classes I have led are drawing, portraiture, painting, pottery, sculpture, technical drafting, crafts, calligraphy, art appreciation and art history. I incorporate art history in my studio classes because as artists; we need to have some basic knowledge of the masters.

Art is like a coin with two sides: talent and expression. Those who work hard gain the most whether or not they have talent. Talent helps. My philosophy is more about the journey than the outcome. We learn more from failures and mistakes than successes. Even then some mistakes can be better than the expectation. I like to foster a spirit of mutual learning, constructive criticism balanced with encouragement. Creating a safe place to be creative no matter what the finished product looks like is the goal.
