Join the Enrichment Team – “Many Hands, One Mission”

Do you love Enrichment days? So do we!
BHEA’s Enrichment program is one of the most treasured parts of our homeschool community—a place where students grow, friendships blossom, and learning comes alive. Behind this beloved program is a group of servant-hearted individuals who make it all happen: the Enrichment Team.

These dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to make Enrichment run smoothly every week. From organizing supplies to coordinating classrooms, assisting teachers, and offering support to families—this team gives generously of their time and energy to bless every BHEA member who attends.

What Does the Enrichment Team Do?

The Enrichment Team is responsible solely for the organization and operation of BHEA’s Enrichment program. This is not a Board of Directors role (with the exception of the Enrichment Team Coordinator, who does serve on the board).

Team members:

  • Ensure classes run on time and classrooms are set up appropriately

  • Maintain supply closets and assist teachers with classroom needs

  • Coordinate hallway safety and traffic

  • Manage snack set-up and clean-up

  • Provide on-site support for parents and students

  • Communicate updates specific to Enrichment days

Whether you can lend a hand for a few hours or step into a key leadership spot, there's a place for you on the team. Your service helps keep this vital program running for every child and family who participates.

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:3–4 (NAS)

Why Should You Join?

Because you make the difference. If your family has been blessed by Enrichment, this is a wonderful opportunity to give back in a meaningful way. You’ll be joining a team that cares deeply about building relationships, supporting one another, and keeping the program strong for future families.

A Few Important Notes

  • The Enrichment Team is separate from the BHEA Board of Directors.

  • For general BHEA questions or day-to-day group needs, please reach out to the appropriate coordinator or the Board of Directors.

  • The Enrichment Team can only assist with Enrichment-specific concerns or volunteer roles related to Enrichment days.

Jennifer Thompson, Enrichment Team Coordinator

Jennifer has been a part of BHEA since 2015 and joined the Enrichment Team in 2021. She and her husband live in Maryville and are the proud parents of five children—two grown and three still homeschooling. The younger three have been homeschooled from the very beginning, starting in kindergarten.

Jennifer has a deep love for serving within the Enrichment Program and is grateful to be part of BHEA’s vibrant homeschool community. Before beginning her homeschooling journey, she studied computer science at ETSU. When she's not teaching or reading with her children, Jennifer enjoys sewing, gardening, and exploring the outdoors through hiking.

Katie Caputo

Katie has been a BHEA member since 2022 and joined the Enrichment Team in the Spring of 2025.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, but stepped away from private practice to raise and homeschool her two children, both of whom have been homeschooled since Kindergarten.  Her family lives in Alcoa and can often be found enjoying our area’s beautiful parks.  She enjoys reading, gardening, renovating her 100+ year old home, and visiting new countries.

Gwendolyn O'Brien, Enrichment Team Member

Kenna Robinson

Kenna is a Maryville native who joined BHEA in 2020. She and her husband, David, were married in 2018 and now run a family-owned plumbing business while homeschooling their two children. In her free time, Kenna enjoys reading, camping, spending time on the river, and baking sweet treats for family and friends. With a heart for service and a deep appreciation for the homeschool journey, she is grateful to be part of such a strong and supportive community at BHEA.

Sarah Witte, Enrichment Team Member

Sarah has been a member of BHEA since the fall of 2018. She and her husband, David, relocated from Florida to East Tennessee in early 2018. They have three children—one a proud BHEA graduate from the Class of 2023, and two who are currently active in co-op. Sarah also serves in children’s ministry at her church, reflecting her heart for nurturing young minds. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, working puzzles, playing board games, and spending quality time with friends.

Valerie Zarkovack

Valerie has been a member of BHEA since 2016. She and her husband, Jake, have been married since 2006 and moved to Tennessee from Colorado in 2013. They have three teenagers, including one recent graduate. Valerie enjoys spending time outdoors—gardening, kayaking, and hiking are among her favorite pastimes. She’s grateful for the friendships and support she’s found through the BHEA community.
