Monica Shimmin To All Instructors
Monica Shimmin was born deaf (hard of hearing) and raised in NJ. She earned a BA degree in Communication Studies in 1986 and an MS degree in Leisure Service Administration with emphasis on Admin and Supervision in 2006 at Gallaudet University. She also earned a BS degree in Bible Studies alongside her husband at Sunset International Bible Institute in Lubbock, TX in May 2011. She has been teaching ASL since 1998 in many schools, private organizations, police departments and some government agencies in the Washington DC area, Texas and Tennessee. She has been working part time as Coordinator of DeafBlind Services at the Knoxville Center of the Deaf in Knoxville, TN since June 2017. Monica has been married to her preacher husband Frederick Orr for 16 years. They have 2 cats Bailey and Ashley. They have been residents of Maryville, Tennessee since January 2011. Monica enjoys playing her piano, swimming, reading, Bible studies, going to church and going out on movie and dinner dates with her husband Fred (delete and Bible studies here.
