Tammy Rice To All Instructors

I live in Blount County with my husband, Don, and our two children.  My husband likes to call me a "Student of the World", because I have more experience than traditional education.

As a kid, I grew up on a farm, riding horses and working cattle. In junior high and high school, I loved helping my mother and brother-in-law as a trauma victim when they would test their latest EMT students. I joined the USAR at 17 to train as a Firefighter 1, Airport Firefighter and in Hazardous Materials. Also, that year, I trained and tested to become an EMT-B. I have lived in multiple states, but my heart belongs in the mountains. After a move to Montana, I became a Wildland Firefighter which was a true love of mine. I will always be grateful for that job, the opportunity to volunteer as an EMT and the new skills I learned. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take fire assignments and raise two children. Family won out for me, so we moved to Tennessee.

We quickly found Maryville Vineyard as our church home and have been attending for the last 10 years.

During the Pandemic, we joined BHEA and began homeschooling. It was so challenging at first, but we have grown to love it! My favorite subject is Science; particularly natural sciences and anything to do with the human body. As a student, I loved Creative Writing and getting to invent my own adventures. I'm looking forward to meeting more homeschool families and making even more friends.
